About:

We had three members of our varsity team: Tighe Lusk, Matt Ciampa, and Ben Hennessy, travel to Arizona over winter break.  They worked with the following organizations:

International Rescue Committee:

The International Rescue Committee provides opportunities for refugees, asylees, victims of human trafficking, survivors of torture, and other immigrants to thrive in America. The IRC works with government bodies, civil society actors, and local volunteers to help them translate their past experiences into assets that are valuable to their new communities. At the IRC we helped  clean the facility, landscape, and organize supplies for their guests.

Keep Phoenix Beautiful:

Offers programs including recycling initiatives and education, litter reduction, beautification, and community improvement activities. We gardened and landscaped. I planted carrots and a lime tree.

Promise Arizona:

Promise Arizona believes that building immigrant and Latino political power is key to bringing hope, dignity, and progress to their communities. They were born out of a passion for fairness and unity, and their organization strives to promote and harness the power of the Latino community in Arizona. At Promise Arizona we registered and filed over 2000 Arizonans to vote.

Dream Center:

On a mission to stop human trafficking, end childhood hunger and educate tomorrow’s leaders. They do this through residential life recovery programs and community engagement outreach services. At the Dream Center, we deep cleaned rooms, organized the facility, folded and boxed baby clothes/supplies.

Phoenix Audubon:

Envisions an Arizona with a rich and diverse natural heritage, where there is ample habitat for birds and other wildlife, where a majority of its people appreciate and participate in their natural environment, and whose children are educated and motivated to become the conservation leaders of tomorrow. At the Audubon, we weeded, trimmed overgrown bushes, and cleared widened pathways to make them wheelchair accessible.

-not included: all the other events to learn about the culture in Arizona.
