About:
The Smithtown East Field Hockey program has made this season about far more than wins and losses. Through four meaningful initiatives, the Bulls have used their platform to honor loved ones, support important causes, raise scholarship funds, and bring their community together.
To begin the season, the team marked the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, coming together under the message “We Remember, We Honor, We Never Forget.” The program paid special tribute to NYPD Police Officer Glen K. Pettit and FDNY Battalion Chief Larry Stack, both of whom made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11. Wearing special red remembrance shirts and gathering with the American flag, the team helped ensure that the legacy of those lost continues to be remembered by a new generation.
The Bulls also Went Gold for pediatric cancer awareness, using their season to stand with children and families impacted by childhood cancer and help bring greater attention to the cause.
Another especially meaningful night was the team’s Memorial Scholarship Game honoring Valerie Kratochwil. Families, staff, players, and supporters came together to celebrate Val’s life and legacy while raising nearly $3,000 for senior scholarships through raffle baskets, concessions, and donations. Support from the Floral Park PBA, West Islip Varsity Field Hockey, field hockey families, and East staff helped make the event a tremendous success.
Smithtown East will also continue one of its longest-standing traditions with the 25th Annual Diane Corey Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser against Smithtown West. The event honors former player Diane Corey, with proceeds benefiting the Corey family and scholarships awarded to graduating seniors from both sides of the district.
From remembering the heroes of 9/11 and raising awareness for pediatric cancer to preserving the legacies of Valerie Kratochwil and Diane Corey through scholarships, Smithtown East Field Hockey has demonstrated what it means to be a team beyond the field.
Each initiative is different, but they share the same message: community, compassion, remembrance, and togetherness matter.
For the Bulls, this season is about more than field hockey — it is about using their team to make a lasting difference.
