About:
On Sept. 24, the Smithtown High School West boys soccer program raised more than $17,000 in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 5K Walk/Run in Melville.
The team, on their day off from practice, organized and participated in the race with teammates and coaches in memory of coach Niki Pelliccio’s brother Vincent Pelliccio, a former Suffolk County police officer who passed away last year.
“I couldn’t have been more proud of them and how involved they were, respectful and excited to volunteer. Even our very own Carson Carey won the entire 5k!” said Pelliccio.

From Coach Pelliccio:
“This past summer I began a fundraising team named Team Veeps in my late brother Vincent Pelliccio honor to participate in the Annual St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 5k. St. Jude’s was a charity that my brother held near and dear to him. I was not expecting the response from those close to us and in our community, that is when I decided to involve the Smithtown High School West boys soccer program. Members of the Junior Varsity and Varsity boys soccer teams were both involved in fundraising and participating in the 5k run. Team Veeps ended up raising over $17,000 and one of our student athletes came in first place in the 5k! It was truly remarkable how great all of the boys and their families were to help with his cause and volunteer their time.
