The Smithtown West Softball program celebrated a memorable day filled with tradition, pride, and outstanding teamwork as the Bulls earned a hard-fought 2-0 shutout victory over cross-town rival Smithtown East Softball.
Powered by strong pitching, lockdown defense, and timely hitting, Smithtown West showcased the grit and determination that has long defined the program. Every inning reflected the team’s toughness and commitment as they battled their way to an impressive shutout win.
The day carried even greater meaning as the program hosted its special “Blue Knights Throwback Game,” honoring the rich history and legacy of Smithtown West Softball and the generations of athletes who helped build the tradition.
A highlight of the celebration was welcoming back Joanne Duckham Wetter, a standout alumna whose accomplishments continue to inspire today’s student-athletes. Wetter was recognized as the 1988 Softball MVP, earned All-County honors during her playing career, and was later inducted into the Smithtown Booster Club Hall of Fame in 2008 for her exceptional athletic achievements.
The throwback event created a special opportunity for current players, alumni, coaches, and families to come together in celebration of the program’s enduring culture and success. From the Blue Knights era to today’s Bulls, the sense of pride, tradition, and family surrounding Smithtown West Softball continues to shine brightly.
