On May 13th, Somers Softball hosted its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game, taking on Tappan Zee High School at 5:00 p.m. Despite a last-minute schedule change and rainy weather, the event went forward with heartfelt purpose and support from both teams.
A special moment came before the first pitch, when a current Somers Middle School staff member, recently diagnosed with breast cancer, was honored with the ceremonial throw. In a touching gesture, the Somers players signed the game ball and presented it to her as a keepsake.
The team wore pink uniforms and sold T-shirts in support of breast cancer awareness. While fundraising efforts were limited due to the rescheduling and weather, the event remained a meaningful demonstration of community, compassion, and the power of sports to support a cause bigger than the game.
