About:
Students at Fifth Avenue Elementary School made this year’s Super Bowl about more than football. They collected cans of soup and non-perishable food items to be donated to the community’s local food panty at St. Anthony of Padua Parish church.
The school’s student council – run by third grade teacher Michele Maldari and fifth grade teacher Virginia FitzSimmons – recently completed its Soup-er Bowl fundraiser. Ms. Maldari said that the group had to make two trips to the pantry to deliver all of the food that was collected.
Student council members are also in the process of selling koala pencil toppers with a Valentine’s Day pencil to benefit the Red Cross to help the wildlife of Australia. The pencils and toppers will be delivered to the students on Feb. 14
