About:
The South High Community School Field Hockey team in Worcester, Massachusetts, closed out its regular season with a meaningful Pink Game on October 29, 2026, combining athletic competition with an opportunity to raise awareness for breast cancer.
The Colonels hosted Fitchburg High School for their final regular-season matchup, earning a 1–0 victory while recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month and supporting an important cause through a team T-shirt fundraiser.
The special event demonstrated how student-athletes can use the power of sports to bring attention to issues that affect families and communities everywhere.
Playing for a Purpose
South High’s Pink Game was about more than the final score. The event provided an opportunity for the field hockey program to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month and show support for individuals and families affected by the disease.
Before the game, the Colonels organized a T-shirt sale as part of a team fundraiser, encouraging members of the school community to get involved while highlighting the importance of breast cancer awareness.
By incorporating the fundraising initiative into their final home game of the regular season, the team brought together school spirit, community involvement, and a meaningful cause.
Colonels Secure a Shutout Victory
On the field, South High delivered a strong performance against Fitchburg, earning a hard-fought 1–0 win to close out the regular season.
After three scoreless quarters, Oritsetosan U. broke through in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, scoring what would become the game-winning goal.
Defensively, goalkeeper Michelle O.G. played a key role in securing the victory, recording nine saves to preserve the shutout.
The win brought the Colonels’ regular-season record to 10–8, providing a positive finish as the team awaited its playoff opponent.
Raising Awareness Beyond the Field
Through their Pink Game and T-shirt fundraiser, South High Field Hockey demonstrated the importance of using athletics as a platform for causes greater than competition.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month provides an opportunity for school communities to recognize those affected by the disease, encourage awareness, and demonstrate compassion and support.
By bringing this message to the field, the Colonels helped reinforce the idea that student-athletes can make a difference through both their actions and their involvement in meaningful community initiatives.
