About:
Student leaders from South Side High School’s Athletes Helping Athletes program recently spent the day preparing for their upcoming elementary school visit while collaborating with fellow student-athletes from across Long Island at Adelphi University.
The session focused on brainstorming creative and meaningful ways to strengthen the connection between high school athletes and younger students. By working together to develop new outreach ideas, participants demonstrated leadership, initiative, and a shared commitment to making a lasting impact within their school communities.
Programs like Athletes Helping Athletes emphasize mentorship, positive role modeling, and service, encouraging high school students to use their athletic experiences to inspire confidence, teamwork, and goal-setting among elementary-aged students. Through thoughtful planning and collaboration, South Side’s student-athletes continue to build traditions that promote unity and school pride across grade levels.
Their dedication to fostering strong relationships with younger students highlights the important role athletics can play in supporting personal growth, community engagement, and leadership development both on and off the field.
