About:
The South Side High School boys basketball program recently demonstrated the true meaning of leadership and service by volunteering with the Hoops for All program in Rockville Centre.
During the event, Cyclones players worked alongside participants to teach fundamental basketball skills such as dribbling and shooting. More importantly, they helped create an encouraging and inclusive environment where every athlete felt supported and celebrated. The experience provided meaningful opportunities for connection, teamwork, and personal growth for both volunteers and the athletes they assisted.
The South Side players embraced their roles as mentors, leading with kindness, patience, and sportsmanship throughout the clinic. Their enthusiasm and positive energy helped make the session both fun and impactful, reinforcing the importance of using athletics as a platform to give back to the community.
Initiatives like this highlight how high school athletic programs can foster inclusion and strengthen community bonds. By investing their time and effort into supporting programs like Hoops for All, South Side student-athletes continue to set an example of character, compassion, and leadership both on and off the court.
Their commitment reflects the growing movement of student-athletes using sport to create opportunities, build confidence, and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
