About:
The South Side Cyclones recently participated in a heartwarming event, sharing their passion for lacrosse at the Long Island Metro Lacrosse Foundation’s Special Needs Clinic. For the second year in a row, the team dedicated their time to working with incredible athletes, helping them develop their skills and fostering a love for the sport.
With enthusiasm and encouragement, the Cyclones players created an inclusive and supportive environment for all participants, ensuring everyone had a memorable experience. Their efforts demonstrate the power of sports to unite communities and create a meaningful impact beyond the field.
Held at the Hicksville Athletic Center, the clinic is part of a larger initiative by the Long Island Metro Lacrosse Foundation, which offers weekly clinics as well as a wheelchair lacrosse program. The experience has been incredibly rewarding for both the athletes participating in the clinic and the Cyclones players.
The student-athletes from the Cyclones break into smaller groups to give individual attention to each participant, working on key lacrosse skills like ground balls, shooting, footwork, and dodging—all with modifications to meet the needs of each player. The session usually ends with a fun competition and team-building activities that energize and motivate everyone involved.
The clinic includes both younger and older kids, boys and girls, all part of the program, creating a diverse and engaging atmosphere. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the Cyclones players to give back to the community while also gaining valuable perspective. The team is looking forward to continuing this rewarding experience each year.
