About:
Students at South Street School in the Eastport-South Manor Central School District recently came together to support neighbors in need through the school’s annual Souper Bowl Can Drive.
Members of the South Street Shines Club and the Breathe Club organized the initiative in January and February, encouraging students and families to donate canned goods to help fight hunger in the community.
The effort supported Angels of Long Island, an organization dedicated to assisting individuals and families facing food insecurity across Long Island.
Students across multiple grade levels participated enthusiastically in the drive. Kindergarten students collected 102 cans, second graders donated 127 cans, and first-grade students led the effort with an impressive 138 cans, helping the school reach a total of 367 cans collected.
The project was guided by club advisers Megan Kelly and Susan Rorke, who helped students organize the drive and raise awareness about the importance of helping others.
Through initiatives like the Souper Bowl Can Drive, students at South Street School are learning that even small acts of generosity can make a meaningful difference in their community. The school community’s efforts will help provide food and support to families in need across Long Island.
