About:
The girls soccer ream received laces from the Daniela Conte Foundation after the foundation made contact with their athletic director.
The laces were available for $3 a pair. Recognizing an opportunity to make a difference, the athletes set up a fundraiser page to gather additional support.
They strategically placed posters with QR codes throughout the school to facilitate donations. They also shared the fundraiser link with their families.
Currently, the fundraiser page reflects a total of $660, but with additional contributions collected during a game, the actual amount is expected to be higher.
Once the initiative was underway, shirts and socks were acquired to further support the cause. Moreover, a part of the proceeds from the soccer-related sales is earmarked for child cancer charities. While the team has an annual tradition of hosting a pink “Kicks for Cancer” game in October, this year the students were equally enthused about organizing an additional charitable match in September.
In addition, the knowledge that the raised funds would benefit children and families locally on Long Island added a profound layer of significance to the initiative. Many of the students had personal connections, knowing families or relatives who had experienced the trials of childhood cancer. This made their fundraising efforts even more heartfelt and meaningful.
