About:
Southampton High School’s art and food industry career students have teamed up to host an inaugural ‘Souper’ Bowl fundraiser to provide food to local families in need through Island Harvest.
As part of the fundraiser, art students created ceramic bowls that will be sold on Feb. 12, from 4-7 p.m., in the main lobby of Southampton High School. Those purchasing bowls will receive Panera Bread cookies and a voucher for soup. Food industry career students will be serving up refreshments that they made. All attendees are asked to bring a can of soup for donation.
To make the one-of-a-kind, handcrafted bowls for the event, art students volunteered their time. They spent two weeks throwing the bowls on a pottery wheel and then firing and glazing them.
“This has truly been a collaborative effort that I love,” said art teacher Justine Moody, who is working with family and consumer science teacher Dianna D’Amico on the project.
The ‘Souper’ Bowl fundraiser is part of the global Empty Bowls project, which brings awareness and resources to communities in the fight to end food insecurity.
