About:
I got the idea a few years ago from my friend who coaches over at Gates-Chili. Coach Benham (Gates-Chili Football Varsity Coach) challenged his players to get out and shovel and check in on neighbors during a huge storm. Driveways, fire hydrants, and check-ins were the challenge. I’ve always admired that particular idea of community service.
In my house, Martin Luther King Day has always been a day of service of some sort for our family. When the storm was coming, I thought it would be a good thing for our Spencerport Community and our players to take part in that “service-minded idea” and naturally I thought of clearing snow, helping neighbors, and our fire departments. I simply sent out a message on our parent email and student messaging system. Many participated and not everyone took a photo.
It took me all of 30 seconds to send it out and we helped many people. We have great kids who want to help in Spencerport.
