About:
Summit Lane Elementary School fourth-graders in Jennifer O’Brien’s class in the Levittown Public Schools recently spread smiles to senior citizens at the Sunrise of East Meadow, an assisted living facility. The class created more than 25 cards in honor of St. Patrick’s Day which were delivered to the facility on March 15.
The students wrote meaningful cards and drew detailed illustrations for the residents. The class creates cards during different holidays to spread kindness to others in the community. O’Brien started the card initiative with her class in 2017 and since then, it has grown as students wanted to keep the activity alive.
“It teaches kindness and empathy, and I really feel that my students grow each year as they experience the joy of making others happy through a small act of kindness,” said O’Brien.
To thank the students for their kindness, the Sunrise of East Meadow sent over a bag full of goodies for students which included drawstring backpacks, folders, cups and tote bags. The class also received two soft teddy bears which will have a permanent home in O’Brien’s classroom.
