About:
Every September, the SSHS Well Being Club joins forces with the Ruchalski Foundation to raise funds for pediatric cancer in memory of Mary Ruchalski, a local 12-year-old girl who lost her battle with the disease. The Well Being Club’s student-athletes play a vital role in this initiative by selling gold lanterns, which are displayed in front of homes and schools during the last week of September as the town “Goes Gold” to show its support.
In addition, athletic teams participate by wearing gold laces, provided by the foundation, during practices and games. This visible involvement of student-athletes not only raises awareness for pediatric cancer but also unites the community in a meaningful way.
At the end of the month, they will compile a collage of all the teams showing their support and post it to celebrate the collective effort.
