Photo caption: First grade students at St. James Elementary School in the Smithtown Central School District learned all about the meaning of Veterans Day, the branches of the military and how the military keeps them safe. The students watched a video and brainstormed nonfiction writing ideas about Veterans Day. They also wrote handmade cards to the local veterans, thanking them for their service. The cards will be delivered prior to Veterans Day at the VFW Hall in St. James.
