About:

Members of the Student Council at Maurice W. Downing Primary School in the Malverne Union Free School District have raised $8,080 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities New York Metro. Throughout the last several months, the students participated in a variety of fundraising activities to support their efforts.

In June, the students hosted a cornhole tournament; in May, they held a coin challenge; in April, they participated in a canvas painting art class; and in February, they turned crayons into heart molds and sold them to raise money. Club advisers Jenn Eisenberg and Katie Smyth said they teach students the importance of getting involved in their community to help others. Through the club, the students also learn that one person can make a big difference by little acts of kindness.

Club representatives presented the check for $8,080 to Matthew Campo, CEO of Ronald McDonald Charities New York Metro on June 16. The entire student council would like to thank their teachers, staff, families, and classmates for supporting their fundraising efforts this year.
