About:
West Gates Avenue Elementary School fifth graders together with the school’s social worker Lisa Boticelli, and the Albany Avenue Elementary School COMPACT committee with support from the fifth grade students, organized a “Souper Bowl” food drive event to benefit the local food pantries in Lindenhurst including the Long Island Cares, Inc. Harry Chapin Food Bank.
The mission was to capitalize on the Super Bowl weekend to help fight hunger and poverty in the community. During the course of their respective collections, the collective efforts resulted in more than 2,000 donations of canned goods from the student body and members of staff.
