About:
Lincoln Orens Middle School students from Island Park Public Schools showed their support during the district’s blood drive on Jan. 24. Members from the school’s student council and “The Little Doctors” comprised of student volunteers, helped the New York Blood Center by escorting participants, writing thank you cards and giving out bracelets, stickers, snacks and juice to donators.
“It’s a great experience for students to give back to the community” said student council advisor Jillian Betancourt. “It makes students feel good and teaches them just how beneficial volunteering is.” The Little Doctors Program is organized by the New York Blood Center and is designed for faculty members and students at elementary and middle school levels to learn about volunteerism, community service and the science of blood.
