About:
Last weekend, girls tennis players from across Suffolk County gathered at Ward Melville High School for the annual Bob Davis Play For Pink Tournament, a special event dedicated to raising funds for the fight against breast cancer. The tournament, now a decade-long tradition, was named in honor of Bob Davis, the former Harborfields High School coach who founded the fundraiser. This year’s tournament featured 28 doubles teams competing in round-robin play, with participants vying for points in a 10-minute tie-break format, all in the name of cancer research and awareness.
The event was a tremendous success, raising $940 for the Good Samaritan Hospital Breast Health Center. Teams registered with a $40 entry fee, with all proceeds going directly to breast cancer research. Winners and finalists earned the opportunity to attend the end-of-season Section XI tennis dinner for free.
Much of the tournament’s success is due to the efforts of Coach Erik Sussin and Joe Arias, president of the Suffolk County Tennis Coaches Association, who worked tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly. Their dedication, along with the commitment of the players, coaches, and supporters, highlights how sports can be a powerful platform to raise awareness and inspire change.
Together, these athletes proved that tennis is not just about competition, but also about making a meaningful impact in their community.
