About:
The high school basketball season can be quite demanding, featuring a schedule of over 20 games that spans across two holidays. Therefore, it’s essential to pause and come together as a team, engage with the community, and cherish our blessings.
Last season, Varsity Basketball Coach Andrew Murak established a connection with the founders, Chris and Liz Kelcher at Buffalo Wheelchair Club and their team had such a positive experience that they decided to make it an annual tradition by returning this year.
Wheelchair basketball is a sport that accommodates individuals of all abilities, promoting inclusivity for children with disabilities in the community, thereby leveling the playing field. The Buffalo Wheelchair Club generously dedicates their time to include the team and teach them the sport, which requires developed skills. The team finds immense enjoyment in playing alongside their team and providing a few hours where they can forget about their disabilities.
The athletes eagerly anticipate continuing this tradition and improving their skills for the next time they play.
Additionally, the team devoted their time to volunteer with the Sweet Home Education Foundation. The girls enthusiastically supported the “Weekend backpack food program,” an initiative that spans the entire district and aims to provide nutritious, non-perishable, and easy-to-prepare food to district students and their families. On Thursday, January 25th, the girls collaborated to assemble bags filled with items for families to take home over the weekend.
