About:
This past weekends game happened to be pretty special.
To give you a little background, I feel honored being a part of this team and community. Each year the athletic booster club would ask the team to partake in a benefit game and event. After doing several years with kicks for cancer, in 2019 the team got together and approached the athletic department and various booster organizers involved and began playing in honor of me and others who suffer from multiple sclerosis. The official color of the MS ribbon is safety orange so they have special uniforms made up and wear them with my name on the back. Bake sale and various stuff is sold and proceeds go to the MS Society for future research. The girls are also involved with community awareness and spreading information on autoimmune type diseases. The captains even give a speech to the large crowd about MS and their experience of having a coach with it. Sayville high school and our AD Dr. Cox are huge supporters of the cause and typically all the other teams make the game.
It has also been special being able to helping the team understand a little bit more about people with disabilities.
We had between 40 JV and Varsity athletes participate and an additional 100 in the stands from the other athletes that come to support.
