The cheerleaders and I have been participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Manhattanville college for close to 2 decades. When we first began walking and raising money, I had previously lost my grandmother to breast cancer and the mother of one of the cheer team members had recently been diagnosed. The football team coaching staff asked if they and the boys could join us and it has become a yearly tradition since then. This year, Coach Perillo and I were joined by not only the members of both teams but many of their parents as well. Through donations, we were able to raise almost $1100 for the American Cancer Society.
For the walk we had 23 football players and 6 cheerleaders (1 football player and 2 cheerleaders were unable to attend the walk but participated in raising money and awareness at football games).
Overall, between the walk, getting donations and raising awareness during October games, the athletes invested 10 hours into the cause.
