About:
Tamarac started this event last year and have done so through the company, Go4TheGoal.org to supply us with the yellow shoe laces, rubber bracelets, etc. and to disribute the funds we raise. Funds are donated to Albany Med’s pediatric cancer unit. All Tamarac players wore yellow (gold) shoelaces in the day’s games.
This year, the softball teams got involved, too. Our modified and varsity softball teams played Cambridge HS’s teams. The JV softball team played against Maple Hill’s JV (they wore gold laces, too).
All baseball teams wore gold laces and played against Cambridge HS’s modified, JV and varsity teams (who also wore gold laces, too).
Between the 12 teams, we had 6 games – around 180 athletes played on May 11th – from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, here at Tamarac. During the games, we had concessions sold, raffles run, a dunk tank (to dunk coaches), t-shirt customization tent, and an information table from Rens. Co. on pediatric cancer on hand, too.
It was a wonderful day and I’m so proud of our school community for making the commitment to recognize and help fight pediatric cancer. We will be doing this each year (for as long as I am coaching here – hopefully beyond that!).
