About:
Education took on deeper meaning as the Teens as Teachers program visited Sagamore to kick off PS I Love You Week, creating a meaningful connection between high school and middle school students centered on emotional wellness and healthy coping strategies.
Led by Sachem High School East students, the visit focused on helping younger peers better understand and manage emotions, stress, and everyday challenges. Through open conversation and interactive discussion, students explored healthy strategies they can use to make positive choices and support their overall well-being.
What made the experience especially impactful was the peer-to-peer connection. High school students served as mentors and role models, while middle schoolers felt comfortable engaging, asking questions, and sharing their own experiences. The result was an environment built on trust, empathy, and encouragement—showing how powerful student leadership can be when paired with purpose.
By empowering students to teach, lead, and support one another, Sachem High School East continues to foster a culture that values mental health, connection, and community. Initiatives like Teens as Teachers and PS I Love You Week reinforce the importance of giving students the tools—and the voice—to make a positive difference in their own lives and the lives of others.
