About:
North Bellmore School District students understand the importance of helping people in need, and they recently stepped up to support others during the holiday season. Children from the Students Against Destructive Decisions clubs at John Dinkelmeyer, Newbridge Road and Park Avenue elementary school packed gift bags for local families on Nov. 29.
The gift bags were to be given out at the Bellmore Lions Club’s annual Polar Express holiday event on Dec. 8. North Bellmore families donated leftover candy from Halloween and the North Bellmore Teachers Association provided personal hygiene items.
The event on Dec. 8 includes a visit from Santa, a choral performance by students from Saw Mill Road Elementary School and an opportunity for families to pick up necessities and holiday gifts.
“I’m proud to be part of a community of parents, teachers and children who always are enthusiastically willing to step up and support people in their own community and the extended community,” Superintendent Marie Testa said.
“They truly understand the meaning of the holiday season.”
