About:
This year our Senior Captain Ryan Pero came to me before the season and said that he would be interested in keepIng our community service within the school because so many families were in need. Our school has a club called Victor Cares Club. The Cares Club organizes “Snack Packs” for families in need. These packs are delivered to families over school breaks when students do not get school breakfast/ lunch. They are filled with Non-perishable food that can fill gaps for families over long school breaks. Victor used to deliver to about 60 families and now they are delivering to over 200 due to the pandemic. They fill the packs with things like peanut butter/jelly, crackers, pasta, sauce, fruit cups and granola bars. This club has an amazing advisor but it is all student run!
At the start of our project we just asked each Ski Team member to try and bring in 5 items if possible. They all did and we were so excited about all the food. I then suggested to our seniors that I would be happy to put something out to my friends in the community and see if more people wanted to donate. Many people reached out to me. Due to the pandemic we had a contactless pick up. We asked that people just leave a bag on their porch and some of the students picked them up. Yesterday we delivered over 200 items and helped the Cares Club sort them for the holiday break delivery. I am so proud of the kids on our team they loved giving the food and were so excited at the amount they were able to give.
