About:
Hampton Bays veterans were honored during the first Veterans Day car parade at Hampton Bays Elementary School on Nov. 9.
Donning red, white and blue and waving American flags, the district’s fourth graders lined the school’s traffic circle to cheer on the veterans amid patriotic music.
The celebratory parade culminated a week of learning about the importance of Veterans Day. Throughout the week, the students participated in a mini boot camp with Army veteran Erik Blom, took a walking tour of the community’s veterans memorial, and learned the significance of the poppy by reading “The Poppy Lady: Moina Belle Michael and Her Tribute to Veterans” by Barbara E. Walsh.
