Can-It for Christmas is city wide non-perishable food collection done by a volunteer group. The group is headed by Delaney Rasmussen, who is an alum of the hockey program. The hockey players have been asked to help the last 3 years. Responsibilities include collecting donations along the Christmas Parade route, organizing the goods by type in the trucks, and then delivering them to the non-profit group that distributes it for the holidays.
The players also hand out candy to the young kids that give the donations to the players as a way to connect locally to the youth.
The day before, Saturday, the same group of players volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club in Taunton at the grand opening of the new synthetic Ice Surface. The players helped size kids up, tie skates, assist young kids that needed help skating, and manned different posts to maintain organization. The event is designed to increase skating opportunities and promote hockey within the local community and drop the barriers of beginning the sport within urban areas.
