The student council at East Lake Elementary School in the Massapequa School District always strives to help others, and that was the guiding principle behind its annual holiday toy drive.
Students and staff could donate new, unwrapped toys from Nov. 26 through Dec. 19 to benefit the John Theissen Children’s Foundation, an organization that assists children in need and in hospitals. Fifth-grade student council members made fliers to promote the toy drive.
“Some kids out there don’t have any toys, while we’re grateful to have toys,” said fifth-grader Maeve Schiereck. “It makes me feel happy and joyful that we can do this for other kids.”
