About:
At Eastport-South Manor Central School District, even the youngest students are making a big impact. As part of a civics project focused on identifying and solving real-world problems, first graders at Tuttle Avenue Elementary took on the issue of community hunger—and delivered in a big way.
With compassion and determination, the students collected and delivered an incredible 1,000 cans of food to the Eastport Bible Church. Their efforts not only supported families in need but also served as a powerful lesson in empathy, responsibility, and civic engagement.
By choosing to address hunger in their own community, these first graders demonstrated that you’re never too young to make a difference. Their project stands as a shining example of how classroom learning can turn into meaningful action, and how a simple idea—when met with teamwork and heart—can feed both bodies and spirits.
