About:
The student council at West Islip’s Udall Road Middle School, along with eighth-grader Jenna Ostrove, helped the school join the Make-A- Wish Foundation’s “Ones for Wishes” campaign. Udall raised more than $1,000 for the cause over a two-week period, earning the third highest total out of all the participating schools in Suffolk County. Kathleen Ryan and Melanie Vecchione’s homeroom class raised more than $300 alone.
The campaign’s proceeds will grant wishes for two children on Long Island. Thomas, a 4-year-old from West Islip who is currently battling leukemia, will have his wish granted this summer when he visits Disney with his parents, sister and grandmother. Natalie, a 14-year-old from East Northport who was diagnosed with an esophagus tumor, will also have her wish granted this summer when she and her parents visit Hawaii. Ryan and Vecchione’s class had the opportunity to meet both Thomas and Natalie, along with their families.
