About:

Each year we set up a fundraiser for our girls to raise money for cancer research and for someone in the Comsewogue community who is battling cancer.  This year JV, varsity and Jfk middle school teams were all given 10x $5 🎟 to sell for a raffle the Suffolk county girls soccer coaches Association offers for our county-wide kicks for cancer campaign.  So we had 3 teams of ~ 25 girls per team participating.   In addition to selling raffles one of my seniors designed shirts that they sold and donated all profits ($400)to our cause.  The event culminates with the girls on each team picking a game and we celebrate our team efforts and heighten awareness of the cause by wearing pink kicks for cancer uniform shirts in place of our regular jerseys.  The night before our game, our tradition is to hold a pasta party where the girls make tribute posters to show support for friends family and community members of their choice that they would like to show their love and support for.   They are then encouraged to invite their loved ones to the match and hopefully brighten their day with the personalized posters.  We have collected close to $3000 already with one team still to contribute so anticipate hitting our $4,000 goal.  Once the last team submitted their contribution, we then hold a team meeting to discuss which cancer organizations may be special to us and discuss who we would like to help out specifically within our community.  There is no set rule to how we apply it but it’s been tradition to use 1/3 of the $ to help a child in our district battling life threatening cancer and 2/3 donated to researching for a cure.
