About:
This is the 3rd year we are doing the teddy bear toss. This idea came from 2 second graders in Dana’s class 3 years ago. They reached out to our program to see if we could incorporate this into one of our games during the season. We run this event with our first game of the year and Webster Thomas is the other school who we do the event with.
The event is promoted in each school district and fans are asked to bring a stuffed animal. When the first goal is scored the fans throw the stuffed animals on the ice! Both teams and the two students who came up with the idea, collect all of the animals off the ice. The stuffed animals are then bagged, sorted, and delivered to the Golisano’s Children’s Hospital. I believe some of our players help deliver them, along with someone from our booster club, our head coach, and maybe the students who originated the idea… Dana and Mike might be able to provide more details!
Our hockey team does a mentor program with Dana’s 2nd grade class throughout the year. We usually meet with their class once a month and do activies with them to build connections between our players and her students!
