About:
Every year our entire volleyball program (modified through varsity) holds a “Pink Week.” All teams participate in a “Pink Game” where the teams get decked out in pink attire, the gyms get decorated with pink balloons and streamers, and we host a “Pink Out” concession/raffle. All proceeds raised during this week get donated toward the annual Queensbury “Power of Pink” Dig Pink tournaments. Queensbury teams up with the Side-Out foundation each year to raise money in support of breast cancer research. The students take the time to put together pink baked goods and pink basket raffles in order to raise awareness for the cause. On top of that, they decorate the gym and themselves with whatever pink they can find (socks, headbands, face paint, etc.). We have a total of approximately 50 students who participate in this event, along with all of their parents. (The parents are super involved and love to help out!). At the end of the week, our JV and Varsity teams travel to Queensbury to participate in the “Power of Pink” Dig Pink tournament where they play volleyball all day Saturday. Anywhere from 20-30 teams around the area attend this tournament and every single team comes covered in pink. (It is a pretty cool thing to witness in person). These teams compete to see which school can raise the most money. The athletes really enjoy the pink week and attending the “Power of Pink” tournaments. They enjoy seeing all of the local teams come together to achieve a common goal. On top of that, we have several athletes who have lost family members or friends to their battle with breast cancer (or any kind of cancer). We often take this time to recognize those who are battling this terrible disease, have beat the disease, or have lost their fight. I have attached some photos of our program during their pink week. Please let me know if you need anything else and thank you so much for reaching out!
