About:
We had a pretty bad rain storm come through our area that knocked out power and left many downed trees. We were scheduled to host a modified softball game that day, but our grounds crew was tasked with cleaning up the school before they could get started on the fields. Ms. Huntington, our varsity softball coach and PE teacher, saw an opportunity to connect some physical fitness with her PE class with some volunteerism for the school and had some of her students help clean up the grounds. Without the work of her and her students, we would have had to cancel the game. Being that it was the last home game of the season for the modified team, it would have most likely been canceled for good rather than rescheduled.
“After they had the infield and outfield clear of branches and sticks they asked if they could continue to help clean up by doing the areas behind the dugouts and over by the playground that is right next to the field. I was very proud of their willingness to help, even when the majority of them do not participate in softball or use the field. “–Lorinda Huntington
