About:
The Waltham High School Cheer team continues to lead with heart, dedicating their time, energy, and spirit to supporting those affected by cancer throughout the fall season. From September through October, the Hawks stepped up in powerful ways to honor fighters, support families, and rally their community.
In September, the team joined the city in standing behind Declan Lyons, a young local hero courageously battling cancer. With messages of love and strength — and a community-wide wave of support marked by #ThumbsUpForDec — Waltham Cheer proudly added their voices. Their heartfelt tribute to Declan reminded the entire town that no one fights alone and that even the smallest acts of encouragement can make a tremendous difference.
The team carried that spirit into October at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, where they showed up with purpose and compassion. They walked to honor survivors, remember those lost too soon, and support those still fighting. It was a deeply emotional day filled with connection, courage, and community unity.
Waltham Cheer also brought powerful energy to their Breast Cancer Awareness Game, where they were joined by their future Hawks cheerleaders on the sidelines. The younger athletes added excitement and joy to the event, symbolizing strength across generations and a community united in the fight against cancer.
From supporting a young warrior like Declan, to walking for survivors, to cheering loudly for awareness, the Hawks embodied their message loud and clear:
Nobody fights alone — together we fight.
