About:
The Webster Schroeder High School Boys Hockey team is kicking off its preseason with more than just preparation for the upcoming hockey season. The Warriors are bringing their community together through a special “Restock the Care Cupboard” food and essentials drive, supporting students and families in need throughout the Webster Central School District.
Throughout November, the team is collecting pantry staples, personal hygiene products, and snacks during its preseason skating sessions, demonstrating that teamwork and giving back go hand in hand.
Turning Preseason Practices Into Opportunities to Give Back
The Warriors launched their collection effort on November 2, encouraging players, families, and community supporters to contribute essential items during five scheduled preseason skates.
Donation boxes will be available during skating sessions on November 2, 4, 9, 11, and 13, from 4–5 p.m.
Rather than simply focusing on preparing for the hockey season, the Warriors are using these gatherings as an opportunity to help stock the district’s Care Cupboard, which supports students facing food insecurity and other basic needs.
Collecting Essential Items for Local Students
The team’s donation drive focuses on three categories of supplies:
Pantry Items: Canned tuna, chicken, vegetables, soups, beans, pasta, rice, ramen, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, oatmeal, applesauce, fruit, macaroni and cheese, and pancake mix.
Hygiene Essentials: Soap, body wash, deodorant, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.
Single-Serve Snacks: Granola bars, breakfast bars, protein bars, crackers, pretzels, applesauce pouches, fruit snacks, trail mix, and juice boxes.
Community members are encouraged to contribute items that have not expired, ensuring donations can be distributed to students and families who need them.
Supporting the Webster Central School District Care Cupboard
The Care Cupboard serves as an important resource for students and families by providing access to essential food and personal care items.
Through their collection efforts, Webster Schroeder Hockey is helping ensure that students in need have access to everyday necessities.
The initiative also highlights the importance of supporting classmates and neighbors, reminding student-athletes that their impact can extend far beyond the rink.
