About:
The West Islip Students with HEARTT community group, joined by parents, siblings and community members, hit the streets of New York City on Dec. 4 to hand out meals to the homeless. The nine students in the group made more than 285 sandwiches for the effort, and bagged the lunches to include water, snacks and treats.
“We walked over 14,000 steps” said English teacher and HEARTT founder Virginia Scudder. “We witnessed gratitude and tears, and were greeted with love and thanks by so many. It made a huge impact.”
