About:
This year, members of the West Islip Students with HEARTT community group continued their Wall of Heroes project at the high school by honoring three veterans: retiring teacher Thomas Compitello and community members Bill Burkard and Jim Storan. The display, which began in April and continued through part of May, contained flags from 9/11, medals, awards and uniforms. According to HEARTT founder Virginia Scudder, the display coincided with founding HEARTT members Brooke Verdillo and Glenn Greeley heading to basic camp and deployment, respectively. “We are so proud of them and their service” said Scudder. “And to all the men and women who serve our country, we are proud of you too.”
