About:
On a day that transcended competition, the West Seneca West and Sweet Home varsity softball teams came together to show the true spirit of community, compassion, and support—proving once again that high school sports are about so much more than the scoreboard.
In a touching tribute, both teams united in honor of Sweet Home Coach Crystal Carson, who is currently battling thyroid cancer. The game became a powerful platform for awareness, encouragement, and solidarity. Players took the field dressed in purple, blue, and pink—colors symbolizing thyroid cancer awareness—not just to compete, but to stand with someone in the fight of their life.
Due to a spring filled with weather-related rescheduling, West Seneca West joined the cause last minute. Despite the short notice, they stepped up without hesitation.
“Crystal and I grew up playing softball together and against each other,” shared the West Seneca West coach. “So when she reached out, I was more than happy to have my team be a part of this great cause in any way we could.”
Moments like this remind us that the impact of sports reaches far beyond the field—uniting people through shared purpose, heart, and humanity.
