About:
We have been running the event for 12 years and have raised over $38,000 in that time, including over $4000 this year. The event was started by our then assistant coach Kiely Murray, who had lost a family member to cancer. Since then, it has become a tradition both on our team and in our school as we are very well supported.
This year we had 46 student athletes in our program and they all took part in the Dig Pink Effort.
It’s hard to say how many hours they each put in. Some simply came and helped set up on the day of the event. Others spent time reaching out to family and community members for support. And we did have one of our senior players, Nicole Levine who is herself a cancer survivor put in at least a couple of dozen hours creating fundraisers and an excellent video (which you can view HERE – scroll ahead to 1:37:20 and you’ll see it.) Overall I’d guess it was around 100 hours in total, perhaps more.
Again, these hours were spent fundraising (reaching out to family & community), setting up the gym prior to the event, creating the video, and putting together the ceremony.
