About:
Warwick Valley High School Athletics hosted the 10th Annual Wounded Warrior Project Challenge on Saturday, April 26. The Wildcats welcomed the North Rockland Red Raiders, and most of the two district’s spring sports teams squared off in competition.
The annual event, which benefits the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), kicked off with an 8:30 am breakfast for athletes in the Warwick Valley High School cafeteria. A presentation followed by WWP Warriors Speak Spokesperson Jennifer Jenkins, who travelled from Indiana for the event.
Throughout the day teams earned points for wins in each sport, two points for a varsity win and one point for a junior varsity win. The Wildcats prevailed in overall team score by winning varsity Boys Tennis, varsity and junior varsity Boys Lacrosse, varsity and junior varsity Softball and junior varsity Baseball.
The overall score came down to the last sport being played — junior varsity Baseball — when the Wildcats held on to prevail in the game and retain the WWP Challenge championship plaque. The overall school score was 9-8, Warwick.
The Red Raiders, however, still lead the overall WWP Challenge series score at 5 wins. There has been one tie, and Warwick Valley has won four of the last five competitions.
Most importantly, nearly $4,000 was raised by Warwick Valley and North Rockland students and their families, which will be donated directly to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Go Wildcats!
