About:
In an effort to prominently recognize especially caring students, Islip’s Wing Elementary School recently unveiled its new Kind-a-saurus mural and concept, part of the school’s ongoing character education program. To be named a “Kind-a-saurus” the student must be nominated by a staff member. The criteria include being involved in a situation where the student showed empathy and kindness towards someone else, and possessing a good record of always treating others with respect. The honored students will receive certificates, they will be recognized during morning announcements and board of education meetings, and dinosaur-shaped cutouts with their names will be displayed on the mural.
The first three recipients, for January 2017, were kindergartner Logan Velez and first-graders Vareesha Baloch and Saya Rodriguez.
