About:
On Wednesday, May 14, at 4 PM, the Xaverian Brothers High School Varsity Baseball team will take the field for more than just a game. As they face off against Malden Catholic on Senior Day, the Hawks will dedicate the day to a courageous young girl named Teddie—and to the broader fight against childhood cancer.
This special event, titled “Hawks for Teddie,” is part of the team’s ongoing partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a nationally recognized organization that funds research and provides support for families affected by childhood cancer. The players will wear custom yellow jerseys, the color of childhood cancer awareness, proudly featuring the foundation’s logo on the sleeve.
The initiative began last season when team captains were looking for a cause to rally around. Assistant Coach Cory Johnston introduced them to Teddie, the young daughter of a close friend who was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. Teddie’s strength throughout multiple surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy has become a source of inspiration for the team. In her honor, the Hawks launched a fundraising campaign through Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, raising over $9,000 in their first year. That remarkable effort earned them recognition as one of the foundation’s top donors in 2024.
This year, their commitment continues. With over $1,000 already raised this season, the team has surpassed $10,000 in total donations to date. The goal isn’t just to honor Teddie—it’s to fund better treatments and research that will help all children battling cancer.
Last season’s awareness game left a lasting impact: Teddie’s family attended, her friend sang the national anthem, and Teddie herself threw out the ceremonial first pitch. The outpouring of support from the community turned a single game into something far more meaningful.
On May 14, the Hawks are inviting the community to once again come together—not only to cheer on their team but to stand with Teddie and children like her. Fans can attend the game in person or donate directly to the cause via the team’s fundraising page:
