Yorktown High School is gearing up for its annual “Pink Night” on October 18th, a special event dedicated to raising awareness for breast cancer and supporting a meaningful cause within the community. Over the years, this tradition has grown into a powerful display of unity, with students, staff, and local residents coming together to fight against cancer and make a difference.
As part of this year’s event, Yorktown is once again offering “Town Fights Together” t-shirts, with all proceeds benefiting Support Connection of Yorktown, a local nonprofit that provides crucial emotional, social, and educational support for individuals affected by breast and ovarian cancer. The t-shirts, which have become a staple of the event, are made possible through a partnership with Sports Barn, a generous local sports clothing store that sells the shirts at cost to maximize donations.
Each October, the Yorktown football program leads the charge, donning the special pink shirts during one Friday night game to show their support for Support Connection. This organization holds a special place in the hearts of the community, having helped some members of the football program itself. In addition to the t-shirt sales, Pink Night features a prize wheel where attendees can try their luck for a chance to win prizes, with all donations going directly to the nonprofit.
Through these efforts, Yorktown High School has donated over $18,000 to Support Connection in recent years, demonstrating a commitment to giving back and supporting a cause far greater than themselves. The program works closely with Kathy Quinn, the Director of Support Connection’s Yorktown office, who is continually amazed by the generosity of the community and the football team’s dedication to this cause.
Pink Night is more than just a game; it’s a celebration of community spirit and a testament to the power of coming together to support those in need. On October 18th, Yorktown High School will once again unite to show that “Town Fights Together,” bringing hope and encouragement to those facing breast and ovarian cancer.
