Last week, the LIU Post field hockey team graciously took the time to volunteer at The INN in Hempstead and the VA Medical Center in Northport.
During their time at The INN, the Pioneer student-athletes helped to serve food and disperse donated goods to the less-fortunate.
“It is always a rewarding experience to give back to the community,” said senior Lauren Adamusik (Clark, N.J.). “We are so fortunate to be able to attend a great university, play the sport we love and have the support of so many people around us. Giving back at a place like The INN reminds us of just how lucky we are.”
The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) addresses the issues of hunger and homelessness on Long Island by providing food, shelter, long-term housing and supportive services for those who seek their help.
That same day, the Pioneers also went to Northport to assist military veterans with their garden work at the VA Medical Center.
“Going to the VA Hospital was a rewarding experience,” stated freshman Sarah Anthony (Wanaque, N.J.). “It was great to not only clean up the garden, but interact with the veterans, as well.”
