QC Athletics Hosts Military Appreciation Day

January 19, 2016 By Team Up 4 Community

QUEENS, N.Y. – On Tuesday, Jan. 12, during its East Coast Conference basketball double header, the QC Athletics Department hosted Military Appreciation Day.

The day began with the presentation of colors by Reserve Officers Training Corps from John Bowne High School.

Each team hosted an honorary captain on their bench. For the women’s squad it was Sergeant Noodley Descoto Sanchez Etienne, and for the men’s team Purple Heart recipient Staff Sergeant Jimmy Jacob Gavilanes. Each honorary captain was introduced with the QC starters prior to tipoff, and sat on the bench during the contest.

The day proved to be doubly successful as both teams came away with pivotal league victories.
