REDHAWK STUDENT-ATHLETES GIVE BACK DURING THE HOLIDAYS

December 12, 2014 By Team Up 4 Community

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri student-athletes and coaches were out in the Cape Girardeau community in force over the weekend to help spread holiday cheer and end hunger in our region and on a global scale.

Redhawk student-athletes participated in Old Town Cape’s Downtown Christmas Open House, Feed My Starving Children, and the Salvation Army’s canned food drive.

Athletes attended Old Town Cape’s Downtown Christmas Open House Friday evening. The Redhawks visited with local community members and assisted in making holiday arts and crafts with kids at Discovery Playhouse in downtown Cape Girardeau.

A number of student-athletes and coaches were on hand at the Osage Center throughout the weekend to pack meals for Feed My Starving Children. The Redhawks helped package over 113,600 meals to help 313 children all around the world.

The Redhawks also attended the Cape Girardeau Salvation Army’s Canned Film Festival Saturday at Wehrenberg Theatres Cape 14 Cine. The Redhawks assisted in boxing over 33,000 canned goods throughout the day.

This semester, Southeast Missouri student-athletes and coaches have put in about 1,900 community service hours. During the 2013-14 academic year, the Redhawks logged over 3,000 hours in the community.
